The View from the OHSU Women's Center
I decided to put up this page for all my friends and family who need information when I do go into labor.
Everything from directions to the hospital, my room number, to the size of the baby and pictures/updates.
I am going to be delivering at OHSU Medical center (if everything goes as planned) in a planned waterbirth with a midwife and kids present. OSHU is a Science health university who holds the mother and baby in high regard, one of the reasons Im happy to deliver there! They also have a class III neonatal unit which is wonderful in case of a problem, but we aren’t foreseeing there will be one.
You can park in any patient parking area, but the best ways to get to Labor and Delivery are:
9 am – 10 pm: Use valet parking at the Emergency Dept. main entrance.
10 pm – 5 am: Park on the first floor of the Sam Jackson garage and enter through the Emergency Department.
5 am – 9 pm: Park in Kohler Pavilion. Take the elevator to the 9th floor and follow signs to OHSU Hospital/Admitting.

Beautiful, exciting day! Got the call at 6am that you were starting hard labor. You told me that you had an urge to scrub your floor and that you were then going to make egg sandwhiches for the kids, and then wake up the family. Phew! It’s almost 8am and you called moments ago to say you and the family were on the way to the hospital. Love, Mom

Well, there can’t be many things that are more awkward for a brother then to be in the room where his sister had just finished pushing a new human out of her belly. Whether it is before of post labor, it seemed to feel like I was just kinda… there. Though my roll in this visit to the hospital was to watch the kids, I still felt out of place. For the kid’s sake, and my sanity, luckily I brought my laptop loaded with games and movies.
Jyn, I want you walking away from this keeping in mind that everyone is special. Spend time with your kids individually to teach them what life is about. I hope your children grow up to be people that stop hunger, end wars, and turn our world into a greener planet.

I’m so glad everything came out alright, I guess you had a lot of company. Hope the baby is doing well and you are feeling well.
Love,
Grandma

Amazing. I walked into OHSU, felt lost, called from inside the maternity ward, Abbie ran out and said, “Come! The baby is coming!” As I walked in at 12:22 I heard Jyn’s birth cries, then,Jyn was in the tub, Jay learned over her, and Gracie was standing nearby watching. Abbie put her hands over her ears and looked at me. “Oh! She’s here!” I heard one of the 4 medical women say, and I grabbed Jyn’s camera. She showed me how to use it yesterday! Taking photos, it was such a blessing to be there at the moment of birth. Tears in my eyes, I said a silent prayer, “Thank you.” Jyn, you were incredible. Your little daughter is precious!
